Designing a website for a brewery is an exciting opportunity, the decals, the venue, the merch, the music, and just all round good vibes. So having successful launched TAPSnTINS, with vibrant colours and rich gradients, why did our design team opt for a neutral colour palette for Badlands, and could we pull it off?
Badlands Brewery is undergoing a Brewery relocation and with that an all new brand. These two things are costly for any organisation, but for a regional independent brand, this design process would need to be pragmatic, and use tactical innovation to assist cashflow in a period where expenses are inevitably unprecedented.
The immediate solution is, of course an online shop, but how can ecommerce bridge this gap? A new venue means new finishes, new textures, new signage, and an all new set of photography, yet non of these things could use on the website until the scheduled venue launch in December 2022.
The new website could not wait until December, it would need to launch immediately to support the venue launch and keep the revenue coming in, while being subtle enough not to give away any of the design surprises until the new venue officially opened.
We introduced a Beer Club subscription service that would allow customers to receive a monthly subscription of the brewers picks of the months.
After the success of TAPSnTINS, we knew that mix 'n match cases were very popular, and allowed customers to build their own cube of 16 beers, or case of 24. We built a bundle calculator inside the cart drawer which shows the pack price accumulate as the customer curates their picks, allowing them to easily adjust their selections to create their perfect order.
Aaron Draplin is without question one of MOBLE's favourite ever typeface designers. MOBLE had the opportunity to meet Aaron in San Francisco in 2017 at the AWWWARDS conference, and were particularly excited to see the choice to font for the new Badlands brand... 'Hardware', by Draplin, nice.
To complement the beautiful industrial font, we opted to extend to brand guidelines introduce a beautiful font pairing of Google's 'Russo One' and 'Inter'.
To keep the design minimal, and free of any future conflict once the Taphouse opens, we used MOBLE's new point and click animations feature inside the CMS page editor. The end results was a distinctive and engaging motion of key typeface headings to make the design, in the words of our client, "looking the business".
But what about when new photography of the new venue would be available, how would the rich textures of the rustic-modern architecture be able to seamlessly evolve without timely, or costly, redesign and development fees?

With such tools at hand, we were never phased by the proposed relocation and similarly out client was confident about not receiving any unexpected ongoing bills once the new renovation was complete, and new photos would be available.
